This week I met up with some lovely ladies at our women in leadership program, to discuss our digital presence and personal bio’s. Nowadays we have a short bio on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and a little blurb on a company website.
This week I met up with some lovely ladies at our women in leadership program, to discuss our digital presence and personal bio’s. Nowadays we have a short bio on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and a little blurb on a company website.
If you’re
anything like me, writing a bio is a massive task - here is my formula on how
to get cracking.
My bio on my
LinkedIn page is very similar to my elevator pitch (short and sweet), whereas
my bio on my business website is a bit more in depth as per this formula, and
my blog bio is merely a one liner. Your bio will change for every platform and
audience, it’s all up to you.
Consider the
following – acquire a pen and answer these 8 questions:
1-Who are you? First
/ Third Person?
I am Renderinglight / Renderinglight is…
2-What is your
title or drive if you do not have a title?
Lawyer-turned-Entrepreneur
3-What are you
passionate about?
I am passionate about simplifying
processes and helping people
4-What experience
do you have?
I worked at two large financial
institutions in my youth, and later spent over a decade working at a law firm
5-What was your
journey like? Put some human into it.
I worked long hours, ran two to seven
hundred legal files depending on the year, managed a growing law firm
6-What
qualifications do you have?
I studied part time and obtained my
Bachelor’s of Commerce and Bachelor’s of Law degrees. Later, I was accredited
with a yellow belt in Six Sigma
7-What are your
skills? Gloat a little.
I have outstanding work ethic, a positive
can-do attitude, unquestionable loyalty and integrity, and interpersonal skills
that enable me to connect with people emotionally
8-What is your
mission and purpose of this bio?
I am on a mission to help people, paying
it forward, making sure you don’t make the same mistakes I did.
And there is
your bio! Read the bold parts (i.e. your answers) from top to bottom, add some
spice, cut some fluff and you sound amazing! I know you do – this formula has
been tested!
Now you need to
decide where you publish which bio, remember you are a brand, be consistent. More
importantly don’t be a faceless brand, put a picture on it!
Happy writing!
